About Hair Extensions
Genius Weft extensions are a lightweight weft of hair sewn in rows close to the scalp, giving natural movement and volume. They suit medium to thick hair and are ideal if you want significant length and thickness. Tape Extensions use medical-grade adhesive tabs to attach small panels of hair close to the root — they lie flat, are virtually undetectable, and are particularly suited to fine or thin hair. Both are premium methods and both are available at Hair Buyers Club. Your consultation will identify which is right for your hair type.
Genius Weft: With professional application and proper maintenance, genius weft extensions typically last 6–12 weeks before needing a move-up appointment. The hair itself can last 12 months or more with good care. Tape Extensions: Tapes typically need re-taping every 6–8 weeks as your natural hair grows. Again, the hair can be reused multiple times with proper maintenance, making them a long-term investment.
When applied correctly by a qualified technician and properly maintained, high-quality extensions should not damage your natural hair. The key factors are correct gram weight (not too heavy for your hair type), proper maintenance, and professional application. Our consultation specifically assesses whether your hair is currently in a condition suitable for extensions — and if it isn't, we will tell you.
Our extensions are 100% Remy human hair and can be heat-styled with irons, wands and blow dryers. We recommend using a heat protectant. Regarding colour: extensions can be toned or darkened but should not be bleached or lightened — this will damage the hair. If you need a colour match that requires lightening, let us know in your consultation and we will source the closest match without requiring you to colour the extensions.
Choosing the Right Extensions
This depends on your current hair density and what you want to achieve. As a rough guide: fine hair typically needs 50–100g; medium hair 50–100g; thick hair 100g or more. However, gram weight is one of the most common mistakes buyers make — buying too little means no difference, buying too much can look unnatural. This is exactly why we ask for a back photo in our consultation: it allows us to estimate the right amount for your specific hair.
Extension length is measured from root to tip. The key thing to understand is that the same length will look different on different people depending on your natural hair length. A 20-inch extension on someone with shoulder-length hair will give a very different result than on someone with mid-back hair. Our consultation will recommend a specific length range based on your current length and target result.
Yes — and in fact fine hair is one of the most common reasons women choose extensions. Tape extensions are generally the most suitable method for fine hair as they distribute weight across a wider surface area and lie flat against the scalp. The key is not adding too much weight. Our consultation will assess your density and recommend the right method and gram weight to add thickness without stressing your natural hair.
In many cases, yes — but your hair condition is an important factor. Bleached or damaged hair has a compromised structure and may not be suitable for all attachment methods. Our consultation specifically flags this and we will advise on the safest approach for your hair. Colour matching for bleached hair also requires extra care, as bleached hair often has multiple tones that need to be considered.
Colour Matching
We use your consultation photos to assess your colour — particularly the back photo in natural daylight, which shows your true colour most accurately. We look at your root tone, mid-length tone, and ends separately. Most people have more than one tone in their hair, and a good colour match accounts for all three. We will recommend the closest shade or, where needed, a blended combination.
Artificial lighting — particularly warm yellow or white LED light — significantly changes how hair colour appears in photos. Natural daylight shows your true colour most accurately. Indoor photos taken under artificial light often make dark hair look lighter and change undertones. This is why we ask for at least one photo in natural daylight, even if you also send indoor shots.
Very few people have a single flat colour throughout their hair — most have natural variation from root to tip. In most cases we can match closely enough that extensions blend seamlessly. Where an exact match isn't possible, we'll advise on whether a blend of two shades would work, or whether your hair may need a slight tone adjustment to create a match. We will always be honest with you about this.
Maintenance and Care
Use a sulphate-free, hydrating shampoo and conditioner. Avoid applying conditioner to the roots or attachment points. Brush extensions gently from tips upward before washing. Allow to dry naturally where possible, or use a low-medium heat setting if blow-drying. Avoid heavy oils or silicone-based products near the bonds or tapes, as these can weaken the attachment.
Brush your extensions at least twice a day using a soft-bristle or loop brush — always starting from the ends and working upward. Never brush extensions when wet without first detangling with a wide-tooth comb. Regular brushing prevents matting and extends the life of the hair significantly.
You can exercise with extensions — we recommend tying your hair in a loose braid or low ponytail to prevent tangling. For swimming, chlorine and salt water can dry out and tangle the hair. If you swim regularly, wear your hair in a braid and wash with a hydrating shampoo immediately after. Avoid submerging tape bonds in water where possible.
Ordering and Delivery
We deliver internationally. Delivery times and costs vary by location. These are shown at checkout before you confirm your order.
Because hair extensions are a hygiene product, we are unable to accept returns on opened or used products. Unopened items in their original packaging may be returned within 14 days of receipt. This is another reason we strongly recommend completing a consultation before purchasing — it prevents the situation of buying the wrong product in the first place.
